The death toll in the Lucknow building collapse climbed to eight on Sunday morning, after rescuers from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) recovered three additional bodies. The victims, identified as Raj Kishore (27), Rudra Yadav (24), and Jagrup Singh (35), were trapped under the debris of the Harmilap Building in the Transport Nagar area. The building, which housed warehouses and a motor workshop, collapsed around 5 p.m. on Saturday, leaving 28 others injured.
The Harmilap Building, constructed just four years ago, was being used as a warehouse for a pharmaceutical business at the time of the collapse. According to the police, some construction work was underway when the building crumbled. Most of the victims were on the ground floor when the incident occurred. One survivor, Akash Singh, who worked in the medical godown, recalled noticing a crack in a pillar just before the building collapsed.
Rescue teams are working around the clock to ensure no one else remains trapped beneath the rubble. The injured have been transported to various hospitals, including Lok Bandhu Hospital, for urgent care. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to expedite relief efforts and ensure the injured receive prompt medical attention. He also expressed his wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Defence Minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh expressed his sorrow over the tragic incident. In a post on X, Singh mentioned that he had spoken to the District Magistrate of Lucknow to get updates on the situation and assured that the local administration is doing everything possible to assist the victims.
With rescue operations ongoing, authorities are determined to bring the situation under control as they continue to search for any remaining survivors.
