Major IAS Reshuffle in Haryana: Sumita Mishra Takes Charge as Home Secretary
The Haryana Government has initiated a significant reshuffle involving 44 IAS officers, highlighting a shift in key administrative roles. Among those newly appointed is Sumita Mishra, who assumes the position of Home Secretary, while fellow officer Anurag Rastogi from the same 1990 batch has been designated as Financial Commissioner for Revenue and Disaster Management.
This strategic realignment of responsibilities is indicative of the Haryana government’s ongoing commitment to enhance administrative efficiency and governance. Anurag Rastogi, previously tasked with the role of Chief Secretary until Vivek Joshi's arrival from Central deputation, will retain oversight of the Finance Department in addition to his new responsibilities. His involvement is crucial, particularly as he represents one of three officers challenging the 1990 batch gradation list—a matter that continues to linger unresolved.
In this reshuffle, Sudhir Rajpal will persist in his role as Additional Chief Secretary for Health and Family Welfare, while also overseeing the Medical Education, Research, and Ayush departments. Anand Mohan Sharan has been appointed as Additional Chief Secretary in charge of Environment, Forests and Wildlife, as well as Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs. This strategic arrangement aims to bolster efforts across crucial sectors, ensuring that competent leadership addresses the pressing needs of Haryana’s populace.
Prominent appointments include Ashok Khemka, Class of 1991, who will now oversee the Transport Department, replacing IPS officer Navdeep Singh Virk. Khemka previously headed the Printing and Stationery Department and will now collaborate closely with Transport Minister Anil Vij to enhance transport infrastructure within the state.
Vineet Garg has been appointed to lead the Higher Education Department while also taking on the role of Chairman of the Haryana State Pollution Control Board. This dual-role appointment is a strategic move to strengthen environmental governance while ensuring quality education within Haryana.
Apoorva Kumar Singh will serve as Additional Chief Secretary for Town and Country Planning, Urban Estates, and the Energy Department. Meanwhile, Anurag Agarwal will oversee multiple departments, including PW (B&R) and Architecture as well as Irrigation and Water Resources, alongside his advisory role in Haryana's Saraswati Heritage Board.
The reshuffle also sees D Suresh (1995 batch) continue as Resident Commissioner at Haryana Bhawan, while Shyamal Misra will manage several key roles, ranging from Chief Administrator of the Trade Fair Authority of Haryana to CEO positions in both Faridabad and Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authorities. Rajeev Ranjan will assume responsibilities as Principal Secretary for both the Fisheries and Labour Departments.
Moreover, Vijay Singh Dahiya has been designated as Commissioner and Secretary for Printing and Stationery, along with Animal Husbandry, while Amneet P Kumar will manage the Women and Child Development Department alongside Archives. Amit Kumar Agrawal is set to oversee Development and Panchayats as well as Information, Public Relations, Languages and Culture, and Foreign Cooperation Departments.
Lastly, Ashima Brar will function as the Commissioner for Excise and Taxation and will be managing Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited. The new appointment of Sanjeev Verma, a 2004 batch officer, places him in charge of three departments including Sports, Ayush, and Foreign Cooperation.
This reshuffle reflects the Haryana government’s proactive approach towards governance, aiming to respond swiftly to the changing demands of the state while leveraging the expertise of seasoned officers in pivotal roles.
