In a tragic incident that unfolded in Jaipur, Rajasthan, early in the morning, a devastating fire claimed the lives of at least five individuals when a truck collided with multiple vehicles near a petrol station. The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 am on Ajmer Road, where a parked CNG tanker was ignited following the collision with the truck.
Authorities have reported that the situation is dire, with several additional casualties anticipated and around 35 individuals suffering injuries, some of whom are in critical condition. Rescue teams are currently working diligently to manage the blaze, which has spread to numerous vehicles in the vicinity.
The explosion was described as remarkably powerful, resulting in flames consuming vehicles within a 300-meter radius. Eyewitness reports indicate that several drivers sustained severe burns from the incident, and the fire's intensity generated a large plume of black smoke visible from miles away. Local residents claimed that the sound of the explosion reverberated as far as 10 kilometers, and there were multiple blasts as various fuel tanks ruptured.
Initial investigations suggest that the truck involved in the collision was carrying a chemical load. The Station House Officer (SHO) for Bhankrota, Manish Gupta, communicated that numerous trucks were engulfed in the inferno, although the precise number of vehicles involved remains uncertain. Meanwhile, several individuals suffering from burn injuries have been promptly transported to nearby medical facilities via ambulances.
In response to the calamity, Rajasthan's Chief Minister, Bhajanlal Sharma, arrived at the hospital to extend his support to the victims and their families, expressing heartfelt condolences over the loss of life. Upon hearing the news, he promptly visited SMS Hospital and instructed medical personnel to ensure immediate care for those injured in the fire. The Chief Minister emphasized that rescue operations are in full swing.
In a message shared on social media platform X, the Chief Minister stated, "I am deeply saddened to hear the sad news of casualties of citizens in the gas tanker fire incident on Jaipur-Ajmer National Highway. As soon as the information about the incident was received, I directed the doctors to provide immediate necessary medical facilities and take proper care of the injured. Rescue work by the administration is underway." He also offered prayers for the departed souls, asking for strength for the grieving families and wishing for a swift recovery for the injured.
This devastating incident is reminiscent of another tragic event that occurred earlier this week in Rajasthan's Nagaur district, where a collision between two trucks resulted in a fire that claimed the lives of both drivers. Following that event, traffic on the highway was halted until the flames were extinguished.
