In a statement released to the media by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, it was clarified that the two vessels involved in the collision were competing in races that were not affiliated with the CYCA. Two other yachts, specifically named Alive and Maritimo 100, had opted to withdraw from the Cabbage Tree Island Race prior to its commencement, and importantly, those boats were not implicated in the collision.

The CYCA expressed their condolences in their statement, acknowledging the tragic nature of the incident. "Last night, there was a tragic accident on Sydney Harbour in which a crew member was killed when two boats participating in races unconnected with the CYCA collided," the statement detailed.
