On Tuesday, the Delhi Police made a significant breakthrough in combatting illegal immigration by dismantling a substantial operation tied to the fraudulent entry of individuals into India. This crackdown resulted in the apprehension of five Bangladeshi nationals alongside six individuals implicated in the production of forged documents, as highlighted by the news agency ANI.
The investigation into this illegal endeavor began following a murder case in Sangam Vihar. The victim of this crime had links to the creation of counterfeit Aadhar cards tailored for Bangladeshi immigrants, according to reports from India Today. The ramifications of this operation illustrate a broader issue surrounding illegal immigration and the complexities of document forgery in the region.
Authorities disclosed to ANI that among those detained were not only forgers but also individuals who specialized in managing Aadhar operations as well as tech experts engaged in the establishment of deceptive online platforms. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for South Delhi, Ankit Chauhan, emphasized that these individuals facilitated the entry of Bangladeshi nationals by producing fake Aadhar cards, voter identification cards, and other fraudulent documents through an illicit website.
The investigation unveiled a particular website named Janata Prints, which was reportedly managed by an individual named Rajat Mishra. This platform was pivotal in generating counterfeit documents, with the fee for such services starting as low as ₹20, as reported by India Today. The authorities recovered a considerable array of fake documents during their operation, including 21 counterfeit Aadhar cards, six fake PAN cards, and four forged voter IDs.
In light of the ongoing issues with illegal immigration, a recent directive from Delhi's lieutenant governor mandated that the chief secretary and the police commissioner initiate a two-month campaign aimed at identifying and penalizing illegal Bangladeshi immigrants within the city. Police sources indicated that more than 1,000 illegal immigrants from Bangladesh have already been identified during these operations.
In an effort to address the situation robustly, the police have been conducting thorough checks that include door-to-door verification, document scrutiny, and interrogations across various neighborhoods in the national capital. Special units within the police force have also been established to explore cross-border connections that may be evident in these cases.
Furthermore, investigators are delving into whether the use of forged documents, such as voting cards, could have resulted in electoral fraud. The implications of such findings could be far-reaching, affecting not only the integrity of the election process but also the broader discourse surrounding immigration and documentation in the region. The police's vigilant approach underscores a commitment to tackling the complex challenges associated with illegal immigration and fortified by legal and procedural actions to curb such activities effectively.
