The latest predictions by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicate that Chennai and several neighboring districts will soon experience significant rainfall. The IMD has issued warnings for 11 districts, urging residents to remain cautious. In addition to the rainfall predictions, school operations have also been impacted, leading to closures in various areas.
According to the IMD, light to moderate rainfall is expected across most parts of Tamil Nadu, including Puducherry and Karaikal. Furthermore, isolated areas are likely to see heavy to very heavy rain, with extreme showers forecasted for a few locations, particularly in the Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, and Thoothukudi districts.
Heavy to very heavy rain is anticipated in various districts such as Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, and several others. The rainfall intensity increases in districts like Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Madurai, Theni, Virudhunagar, as well as Puducherry and Karaikal.
The IMD's forecast extends to isolated locations in districts like Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Tiruchirappalli, Karur, Dindigul, Tiruppur, and Coimbatore, predicting heavy rainfall.
For Friday, the IMD has indicated that light to moderate rainfall will be widespread in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, with heavy precipitation expected in isolated spots throughout several districts including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, and others.
Additionally, the IMD has issued critical advisories for fishermen, recommending that they refrain from venturing into specific coastal areas during the predicted rain period. Fishermen should avoid the Sri Lanka coast on December 12, Comorin area on December 12 and 13, and Tamil Nadu coasts on December 12 and 13, among other specified regions.
