Two siblings have been charged with homicide following the tragic shooting of a 23-year-old woman north of Brisbane last month. Chloe Jade Mason was discovered unresponsive in the front yard of a residence on Railway Parade in Caboolture during the early hours of December 22. Despite efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Monday afternoon, around 2 PM, authorities apprehended 29-year-old Codye Thomson and his 32-year-old brother Kaine Thomson-Gleeson "without incident" in a park area located in Logan, which is south of Brisbane. The brothers are scheduled to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court for their initial hearing on Tuesday.
Prior to the arrests, law enforcement had cordoned off the crime scene with tape, indicating the seriousness of the investigation. Police had responded to reports on Railway Parade shortly after the events unfolded on December 22. Just last week, law enforcement officials announced that arrest warrants had been issued for the siblings, who had initially been interviewed as witnesses after Ms. Mason's death but were released without charges at that time.
The investigation revealed that the siblings fled Queensland shortly after the alleged incident and were believed to have spent time with family in Kempsey, New South Wales. Reports suggested they might have been camping or living outdoors in the northern region of the state.
Law enforcement has suggested that Chloe may have been pursued prior to the alleged assault and shooting, with indications that there was a prior acquaintance between the men and the woman. In light of the situation, Chloe's sister, Dani Mason, expressed her profound grief over the loss. Describing Chloe as "kind, funny, and one in a million," she emphasized the deep impact her sister had on the community.
"She was loved by the whole of the community and made an impact in many lives," stated Ms. Mason, highlighting the collective mourning felt by those who knew her. "She is going to be missed dearly by a lot of people."
Authorities have also extended their gratitude to the public for their assistance in locating the two brothers. In the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged murder, police have indicated that a rifle discovered at the crime scene is currently undergoing forensic analysis to gather further evidence.
The case has garnered significant attention within the community, highlighting the tragic loss of life and the emotional toll on the victim's family and friends. As the legal proceedings unfold, many are left reflecting on the impact of such violence and the importance of community support in navigating these difficult times.
The upcoming court appearance for the Thomson brothers marks a significant step in the legal process as families and friends of Chloe Mason seek justice for her untimely death. The community remains vigilant, awaiting further developments in this heartbreaking case.
