In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, anti-narcotics agencies have successfully seized approximately 700 kilograms of Methamphetamine, commonly known as meth, and taken into custody eight Iranian nationals. This operation took place in the territorial waters of Gujarat on November 15. The initiative was part of the operation dubbed 'Sagar Manthan - 4', which was ignited by intelligence reports indicating illicit drug movement.

The collaborative effort involved the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), the Indian Navy, and the Gujarat Police's Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS). According to an official statement from the NCB, the Navy effectively identified and intercepted a vessel suspected of carrying the contraband by deploying its maritime surveillance resources.

The 'Sagar Manthan' operation was initiated earlier this year, assembling an elite group of officers from the NCB's Operations Branch and the Operations/Intelligence Wing of the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard, as well as from the ATS of Gujarat Police. The mission was designed to combat the escalating maritime drug trafficking threats undermining national security.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the successful operation, asserting that it exemplifies the government's relentless commitment and efficient coordination among various agencies aimed at achieving a drug-free India. Shah highlighted the achievement on a microblogging platform, noting that the operation dismantled an international drug syndicate and resulted in a significant seizure.

Following this successful operation, investigations are underway to trace the links of the drug syndicate, with assistance sought from foreign Drugs Law Enforcement Agencies. This step aims to create a more comprehensive understanding of the drug trafficking networks involved.

The NCB’s efforts have led to a series of similar maritime operations in collaboration with the Indian Navy and Coast Guard, with significant results. To date, approximately 3,400 kilograms of various narcotic and psychotropic substances have been confiscated. This includes the arrest of 11 Iranian nationals and 14 Pakistani nationals across several operations, all of whom are currently awaiting trial.

As the fight against drug trafficking in India intensifies, the commitment of authorities to combat the threat posed by international drug cartels is unwavering.
