Upon reflecting on his new role, Mulholland shared insights into his heritage, stating, “As the proud grandson of migrants, I often recall the story of my late nonna and nonno, Teresa and Domenico Caruso, who arrived in Australia during the 1950s with merely a suitcase in hand. I stand as a testament to Australia’s remarkable migration narrative.”

Representing a region rich in cultural diversity, Mulholland noted the strength and resilience of the multicultural communities within his electorate. “The Northern Metropolitan Region is home to many families from across the globe who have chosen to build their lives, work, and raise families here in Melbourne's northern suburbs,” he remarked.

As the newly appointed Shadow Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Mulholland reiterated the Liberals and Nationals' dedication to supporting these communities. “By fostering and encouraging multicultural communities, we enable these Victorians to play a vital role in constructing a more inclusive and tolerant society,” he remarked.

In this new capacity, Mulholland aims to tackle essential issues impacting multicultural and multi-faith communities in Victoria. He plans to focus on pressing matters such as the escalating cost of living and the safeguarding of religious freedoms and the right to worship. “I’ve engaged with the multicultural and multi-faith communities, and I understand that key priorities for them include addressing the cost-of-living crisis and ensuring their freedom of religion and worship is upheld,” he explained.

Mulholland’s appointment comes at a pivotal moment, particularly as his advocacy for faith communities has garnered widespread attention. He recently led a campaign opposing the Victorian Labor Government's initiative to eliminate the Lord’s Prayer from Parliamentary proceedings. This campaign culminated in a significant backtrack from the government after a petition he championed amassed over 11,000 signatures, showcasing the considerable influence of faith communities in the state.

Beyond his responsibilities as Shadow Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Mulholland will also take on the roles of Shadow Minister for Major Projects and Shadow Minister for Arts and Creative Industries.
