Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has pledged continuous electricity supply around the clock following the completion of metering. This initiative aims to alleviate power outages that arise from system overload.
The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, announced on Thursday that the Union Territory will experience continuous access to electricity once the metering process is finalized. During his statements, Omar emphasized that concerted efforts are being made to minimize power outages in the region.
Abdullah pointed out that the current power cuts occurring are largely unscheduled and attributed this to the strain on the existing electrical framework. He mentioned a common issue where some residents enter into agreements with the power department for what they report as minimal usage, such as four bulbs, while in reality, they consume power for multiple heaters. He explained that the electricity system is calibrated based on the reported needs, which often leads to a mismatch and subsequently results in shortages. "Only an accurate metering system can address this discrepancy," Omar remarked during a press conference in Srinagar.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister expressed optimism regarding the completion of metering, believing that it would directly correlate with a reduction in power interruptions. He stated, “We are aiming for complete metering to be established so that power cuts become a thing of the past. I am confident that once we achieve full metering across Jammu and Kashmir, we will be able to provide round-the-clock electricity supply.”
Abdullah also highlighted the future connectivity improvements for the region, mentioning that a railway link will soon connect Kashmir, which will serve as an alternative route linking the valley to the rest of the country. This infrastructure development is anticipated to bring multiple benefits to the local economy and improve overall accessibility for residents.
As the Chief Minister continues to address the electricity challenges in Jammu and Kashmir, he remains focused on ensuring transparency and accountability within the power distribution system. By implementing more robust meters and upgrading the existing infrastructure, the local government aims to provide a reliable electrical supply, which is crucial for both households and businesses alike.
Omar Abdullah’s administration is committed to this transformative initiative, striving to create a sustainable energy landscape that meets the demands of its residents effectively. As the project progresses, the Chief Minister reassures the public of his dedication to enhancing the quality of life in the region through improved infrastructure and service delivery.
In an era where reliable electricity is fundamental to development, Abdullah's proactive stance reflects a broader vision for modernization and progress in Jammu and Kashmir.
