A shocking case has come to light as a man, identified as Rahul Karamveer Jat, is accused of committing five murders within the span of a month, mainly targeting individuals on trains. The police have revealed the grim details surrounding his arrest, unraveling a series of heinous crimes that shook multiple states.
In a chilling series of events, Rahul Karamveer Jat, a resident of Rohtak, Haryana, has been arrested on charges of multiple murders that have horrified the nation. The man, who is a Class 5 dropout, allegedly looted and killed individuals whenever he found them alone, particularly targeting women traveling in coaches designated for differently-abled passengers.
His string of violent crimes culminated in the rape and murder of a 19-year-old woman in Gujarat, which ultimately led to his apprehension. The police caught him at Vapi Railway Station in Gujarat's Valsad district on November 24 after a significant manhunt that involved various state police units and the analysis of around 2,000 CCTV cameras across Gujarat. Authorities revealed that Jat had notably traveled throughout several states, making it difficult to pin him down as he regularly shifted his location and often spent nights at railway platforms or on trains.
Superintendent of Police Karanraj Vaghela highlighted how Jat had managed to evade capture for so long and the shocking extent of his criminal activities. "He was involved in at least four cases of robbery and murder across different states, including Karnataka, West Bengal, Telangana, and Maharashtra," said Vaghela. The investigation intensified following the discovery of the young woman's body near the Udvada railway station on November 14, where police later confirmed she had been sexually assaulted. With the formation of various search teams, police began to scrutinize CCTV footage, leading them directly to Jat, who was seen wearing the same clothing found near the crime scene.
Disturbingly, the footage captured him eating at the station shortly after committing the heinous act. The investigation revealed that Jat had traveled to Valsad to collect his salary from a hotel where he was employed. Authorities stated that he had raped and murdered the young woman during the visit while she was returning from her tuition classes. In an even more shocking twist, police uncovered that just a day prior to his arrest, Jat had committed another murder on a train near Secunderabad railway station in Telangana. Notably, in October, he had raped and killed a woman on a train near Solapur, Maharashtra, and had also stabbed an elderly man aboard the Katihar Express near Howrah in West Bengal.
Furthermore, he is suspected in the murder of a passenger in Mulki, Karnataka. The investigation proceeded with Jat's photograph being cross-referenced with the national database of prisoners, revealing that he had recently been released from Jodhpur Central Jail, where he had been incarcerated for a robbery incident. Jat’s personal life is just as tragic; police reported that his father had passed away, and his family has publicly disowned him. After he dropped out of school in the fifth grade, Jat resorted to criminal activities, engaging in multiple robberies across Rajasthan, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, which led to a staggering 13 FIRs registered against him. As the investigation shifts focus on the broader implications regarding railway safety and the need for enhanced security measures for passengers, this case has sparked nationwide concern and a call for stricter regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future.
