In 2025, Melton students will enjoy enhanced access to Staughton College with the introduction of six new school bus routes, improving connectivity to local educational institutions and making commuting more convenient for families.
On Thursday, December 5, 2024, an exciting announcement was made regarding enhancements to school transportation services in the region. Beginning in Term 1, two new school bus routes will be established, facilitating connections for students in Weir Views to access the College more conveniently.
Furthermore, in Term 2, an additional four bus services will be introduced to serve students from Brookfield, Cobblebank, and Strathtulloh, enhancing their travel options to Staughton College. These initiatives are part of a broader investment totaling $25 million, outlined in the Victorian Budget for 2022/23. The focus of this investment is to initiate, modify, and expand school bus services across the state, particularly in rapidly growing areas. This project aims to benefit thousands of students throughout Victoria by providing improved transportation opportunities.
Minister for Public and Active Transport, Gabrielle Williams, voiced her enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the commitment to enhancing public transport for families in the region. She stated, “We’re giving Victorians, parents, and students what they need with better public transport, including more buses to schools in Melbourne’s growing west.” Williams also emphasized the objectives of Victoria's Bus Plan, which aims to deliver more frequent and reliable public transport that seamlessly connects individuals to essential locations, including schools and workplaces, while extending service availability across more days and hours.
In addition to the minister's remarks, Member for Melton, Steve McGhie, expressed appreciation for the community's input regarding local transportation needs. He remarked, “We’re listening to local parents and students in Melton and surrounding areas and giving them the better school bus services they want that connect them directly to local schools.” This level of engagement exemplifies the government’s dedication to addressing the concerns and requirements of the community, ensuring that transportation services are tailored to the needs of the students and their families.
The implementation of these new bus services is expected to significantly alleviate transportation challenges faced by students, providing them with more reliable options to travel to school. This will not only help in fostering a more connected community but will also enhance the overall educational experience by reducing the stress associated with commuting. With these initiatives in place, the hope is that students will have easier access to their educational institutions, promoting higher attendance and engagement levels.
Overall, the commitment to bolstering school bus services is a commendable move towards improving public transport infrastructure in Victoria. As the project unfolds, it will be interesting to observe the positive impact these changes will have on the community and the educational outcomes of students in the affected areas. This initiative stands as a testament to the ongoing efforts to adapt to the needs of a growing population and to promote equitable access to education for all students in the region.
