The students residing in Deanside and Mt Atkinson will experience significant improvements with the introduction of six new school bus services starting in the upcoming school year. This initiative, facilitated by the Allan Labor Government, aims to enhance connectivity for students traveling to various local schools.
Beginning this January, students from Mt Atkinson and Deanside will have access to six newly established school specials. These services will cover areas such as Mt Atkinson Estate, Grandview Estate, Olivia Estate, and Deanside, ensuring that students can conveniently reach their educational institutions.
The new bus services are designed to assist students attending a variety of schools, including Rockbank Primary, Brookside P-9, Yarrabing Secondary College, Lakeview Senior College, Deanside Primary School, and Springside West Secondary College. This comprehensive network aims to provide reliable transportation options for students in these growing communities.
Moreover, students in Melton who are enrolled at Staughton College will similarly benefit from the introduction of six new school specials. This includes two school specials designed to link students from Weir Views to Staughton College, which will commence in Term 1. An additional four services connecting students in Brookfield, Cobblebank, and Strathtulloh with Staughton College will be rolled out in Term 2, further enhancing transportation options for these students.
These services build upon the new school bus arrangements set to launch in 2024, which will cater to students from Thornhill Park and Rockbank attending Yarrabing Secondary College, as well as those from Rockbank and Aintree going to Springside West Secondary College. The initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at improving access to education for students in these rapidly growing areas.
This enhancement in school transportation is part of a substantial investment totaling $25 million outlined in the Victorian Budget 2022/23. The funding is dedicated to the introduction, modification, and expansion of school bus services throughout the state, with an initial focus on growth areas. This effort is already showing promising results, providing better service options for thousands of students in Victoria.
Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams expressed the government's commitment to enhancing school transport services for families. She stated, “We said we would provide parents and students with better school bus services in growing communities, and that’s exactly what we’re delivering.”
Similarly, Member for Kororoit Luba Grigorovitch MP emphasized the importance of community feedback in shaping these services. She remarked, “We’re listening to local parents and students in Mt Atkinson and Deanside, giving them the better school bus services they want, that connect them directly to their local schools.”
The introduction of these school bus services represents a significant step forward in ensuring that students in Deanside and Mt Atkinson have reliable access to education, forging stronger connections between their homes and schools and contributing positively to their overall educational experience.
