A senior executive at a private firm in Bengaluru was found dead in his residence in the Marathahalli area on December 9, 2024. The victim, identified as Subash, had died by suicide, and police investigation revealed disturbing details about the circumstances surrounding his death. Subash’s wife and her family allegedly filed multiple false cases against him and demanded ₹3 crore for settling these cases. According to reports, Subash had been locked in an ongoing marital dispute with his wife, which had become a source of immense pressure on him in recent months.
The victim’s brother spoke to the media, expressing that his family had no prior knowledge of Subash’s struggles. He revealed that the deceased had been subjected to continuous harassment by his wife and her relatives, which included the filing of false charges. Subash’s brother went on to claim that had he or their father been made aware of the situation, they would have helped him escape the stress and legal troubles he was facing. The brother urged the government to ensure justice for Subash, demanding that if the accusations made in his suicide note were false, proof should be provided.
Subash’s father also revealed more details of the distress his son had been enduring. He stated that his son was repeatedly forced to travel to Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh, sometimes as frequently as 40 times, for legal hearings related to the marital dispute. The victim’s wife allegedly framed multiple charges against him during this period, further exacerbating his stress. Despite the immense strain, Subash reportedly never openly expressed his frustration to his family. His father also mentioned that Subash had sent a mail to his younger son at around 1 a.m. on the day of his death, sharing his emotional state and making certain claims about the situation, which the family later found to be “100% true” as per his father.
The police were alerted to the incident at 6 a.m. on December 9 when they received a complaint regarding the suicide. Upon reaching the residence, they found that the house was locked from the inside. After breaking the door in the presence of local witnesses, Subash’s body was found. Authorities said that he had left behind a 24-page suicide note, which contained chilling details about his deteriorating mental and emotional state. In the note, Subash accused his wife and her family of being responsible for his distress and mentioned their continuous harassment over the course of their marital dispute.
In addition to the detailed suicide note, police found a placard hanging in Subash’s residence that read, “Justice is due.” This placard further reinforced the idea that Subash felt wronged and that he had been seeking justice but had been unable to obtain it. His note included a profound statement: “If I win from the system, devote my mortal remains in Ganga, otherwise in a gutter outside the court,” showing the depth of his frustration and hopelessness over his situation.
The suicide note was shared by Subash with his close circle through email and also distributed in a WhatsApp group associated with an NGO he was part of. Subash’s family claims that he had been under immense pressure due to the ongoing legal battles and false cases filed by his wife’s family. According to the family, the mounting financial and emotional strain caused by these legal disputes ultimately pushed him to take this drastic step.
The police have initiated a full investigation into the case under Section 108 3(5) of BNS. They are working to determine the full extent of the harassment Subash endured and the role played by his wife and her family in exacerbating his distress. The investigation will also examine the nature of the false charges filed and whether there were other individuals who played a part in the victim's mental anguish.
Subash’s tragic death has raised serious concerns about the mental and emotional toll that prolonged marital disputes and legal battles can take on an individual. It also highlights the importance of ensuring that individuals who are suffering in silence have access to proper support and intervention before reaching a breaking point.
