In a dramatic turn of events, the Supreme Court has expressed strong displeasure over Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s controversial remark concerning the bail granted to BRS leader K Kavitha. Reddy’s statement hinted at a possible deal between the BJP and BRS, which led to the court questioning the integrity of such claims.
Revanth Reddy's explosive comments raised eyebrows as he questioned the circumstances under which Kavitha received bail in just five months, while figures like Manish Sisodia were still waiting after 15 months. The CM alleged that the quick bail might have been a result of a secret deal between BRS and BJP, fueling speculation in the political arena.
The Supreme Court bench, headed by Justice B R Gavai, expressed its dissatisfaction with Reddy’s statement, emphasizing that such remarks could easily create unnecessary doubts among the public. "What kind of statement is this by a Chief Minister? A constitutional functionary is speaking in this manner?" questioned the court, reaffirming its stance on judicial independence. The bench made it clear that the judiciary operates on principles, not political pressure.
The court sternly reminded political leaders of their fundamental duty to uphold respect for institutions. The bench stressed that just as the judiciary doesn’t interfere in legislative matters, political figures should refrain from involving the judiciary in their rivalries.
This high-stakes hearing occurred in the context of a petition seeking to transfer the trial of the 2015 cash-for-vote scam case, in which Reddy is implicated, from Telangana to Bhopal.
