Sussan Lam, a resident of Stretton, Brisbane, has been left devastated after her home was targeted in a daring daytime burglary. The robbery, carried out by two teenage offenders, resulted in the theft of nearly $300,000 worth of valuable and sentimental items, including high-end jewellery and designer handbags.
The entire break-in was recorded by security cameras placed around the property. Footage shows one of the thieves, hooded and cautious, scaling the front fence before scouting the house. Moments later, he returned with another accomplice, who was armed with a crowbar. Despite the home's visible security measures, the burglars proceeded without hesitation, seemingly unconcerned about getting caught.
Using the crowbar, the teens forced open the front door, entering the home in broad daylight with no effort to conceal their actions from neighbors or passing traffic. Several cameras captured the duo as they moved through the house, appearing relaxed as they searched for valuables. Even parts of their conversation were picked up on the interior security system, which may provide investigators with crucial information.
Once inside, the thieves wasted no time making their way to the upper floors of the house. They rummaged through multiple rooms, focusing on expensive possessions, particularly high-value jewellery, including an engagement ring, and a collection of luxury handbags. Their spree lasted around 20 minutes, leaving the house in chaos.
Sussan Lam described the aftermath of the robbery as distressing, with her bedrooms torn apart as the intruders searched for anything of worth. "They just went through all the bedrooms," Lam recounted, reflecting on the scene of destruction left behind. The family was left shaken, unable to sleep after their home and privacy were violated.
After gathering their loot, the thieves opened the front gate and loaded their stolen items into their getaway vehicle before speeding off. It is estimated that the stolen goods, including precious jewellery that held sentimental value for Lam, totaled nearly $300,000. "We've worked hard for everything we've earned," Lam said, expressing her sorrow over the loss.
What intensifies Lam's frustration is that her home was well-protected. The property had high fences, locked gates, and a reinforced front door. In addition, the family had installed more than half a dozen security cameras and kept two dogs on the property. Despite these precautions, the burglars managed to break in and carry out the robbery with ease. "They’ll do anything to get in. They don’t care because they’re determined to steal," Lam remarked, disappointed by the failure of the security system.
Now, Lam is holding out hope that some of her stolen items might be recovered. She has appealed to the public to remain vigilant, particularly for her belongings appearing online or in local pawnshops. The Queensland Police have launched an investigation, reviewing the security footage and pursuing leads in an effort to apprehend the thieves and recover the stolen possessions. Meanwhile, Lam and her family are left grappling with the emotional and financial toll of the heist.
