In an exclusive interview with P24 News Media, Lee Moskwa, Vice President of the Australian KHO KHO team, shared insights into the team's preparations for the upcoming KHO KHO World Championship in New Delhi. This year’s competition promises to be one of the largest in history, with 25 countries participating, showcasing the growing global appeal of this traditional Indian sport.
Moskwa emphasized that the Australian team’s diverse representation spans multiple cities, including Melbourne, Sydney, and Canberra. "We’re excited to have such a broad base of participation this year," Moskwa said. "The players and staff come from across the country, uniting to compete at the highest level."
One of the key figures behind the growth of KHO KHO in Australia is Coach Gaurav Kandpal, who has been instrumental in training athletes in Melbourne. According to Moskwa, Kansal’s expertise and commitment to the sport have been critical in preparing the team for the world stage. "Gaurav's leadership and training programs have played a huge role in refining our players' skills and strategies," Moskwa added.
The Australian KHO KHO Committee, which oversees the development and management of the sport in Australia, includes a dedicated team of professionals. In addition to Moskwa as Vice President, the committee is led by President Nikola (Nik) Damjanovski, with Mansimran Grewal serving as Secretary, Rajendra Sura as Treasurer, and Ojas Kulkarni, Varsha Tembe, and Gaurav Kandpal as members.
As the World Championship approaches, the team is focused on sharpening their skills, building team cohesion, and representing Australia with pride on the international stage. Moskwa expressed confidence in the team's potential, stating, "Our players are ready. They’ve worked hard, and we’re all looking forward to making a strong impression at the World Championship."
With 25 countries participating, the competition is expected to be fierce. However, the Australian team remains hopeful that their dedication, skill, and teamwork will lead them to success. "This is a huge moment for KHO KHO in Australia," Moskwa concluded. "We are not just competing; we are building the future of the sport here."
As the tournament in New Delhi draws closer, all eyes will be on the Australian KHO KHO team as they look to make their mark on the world stage.
