Local residents reported that three strikes hit tents in the humanitarian zone, creating seven-meter-deep craters. Eyewitnesses described large explosions and flames rising into the sky. Volunteers and civilians were seen digging through rubble in an effort to rescue those trapped.
Hamas has rejected the Israeli military's claims that Hamas fighters were present in the area. The group called the Israeli assertion a "blatant" lie, insisting that no fighters were in the humanitarian zone or using civilian areas for military purposes.
Since Israel's military campaign began in response to a major Hamas attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, over 40,900 people have been killed in Gaza, according to the territory's Hamas-run health ministry. The conflict has led to widespread displacement and significant casualties.
