Prepare for intense thunderstorms, heavy rains, and destructive winds as severe weather system approaches WA.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning for Western Australian residents as twin weather systems set to unleash destructive winds and severe thunderstorms traverse the state. With wind speeds reaching up to 100 km/h expected across various regions, some areas may endure even more powerful gusts of approximately 125 km/h.
Senior meteorologist Angus Hynes has alerted that the coming days will be marked by damaging winds, large waves, and heavy rain. As a trough develops along the coast and moves inland, a broad thunderstorm activity is predicted. Hynes remarked, “A strong cold front is likely to sweep through Perth and the southwest early Wednesday morning, bringing rain, possible hail, and fierce winds.”
As the cold front progresses, the predominant concern in the southwest is the potential for damaging to destructive winds. According to Hynes, as the front advances in the early morning, Wednesday will remain windy all day, with the strongest gusts possibly arriving in the evening due to a low pressure system settling in the southwestern part of the state.
For Wednesday evening, a severe weather warning has been issued from Jurien Bay down to the Esperance coast, covering Perth. Gusts of wind are expected to reach between 90-100 km/h late Wednesday and into early Thursday.
Moreover, rain is anticipated as the weather fronts pass through, with forecasts suggesting 20-40 mm of rain for the Perth region and other southwestern areas. Hynes advised that rainfall could occur rapidly, especially in inland locations at risk of severe downpours due to thunderstorms.
In Brisbane, temperatures are expected to peak at 24 degrees on Wednesday. Rain is also likely across the state as an onshore easterly flow may bring a few showers.
Sydney anticipates a high of 21 degrees with a southeast wind expected to generate coastal showers throughout the day.
A chilly morning across Victoria could result in foggy conditions, with Melbourne set to reach 18 degrees.
Conversely, South Australia may experience unseasonably warm temperatures with possible highs in the upper 20s.
It is imperative for residents in affected areas to take necessary precautions. Regular updates from the Bureau of Meteorology should be followed, and individuals should prepare for potential power outages and property damage due to extreme weather conditions.
