The demolition was halted midway following a stay order from the Bombay High Court. Kangana filed a case against the BMC, seeking ₹2 crore in compensation, but eventually dropped her demands in May 2023. This contentious history adds a layer of intrigue to the recent sale.
According to reports, the property, which served as the office for Kangana’s production house, Manikarnika Films, includes a plot size of 285 square meters with a construction area of 3,042 sq. ft. and an additional parking space of 500 sq. ft. The sale price of ₹32 crore was well below the originally listed price of ₹40 crore, reflecting the complex history of the property.
This sale coincides with the ongoing controversy surrounding Kangana’s film Emergency. The movie, which was initially scheduled for a September 6 release, has been postponed due to pending certification from the censor board. The film has faced significant backlash from various Sikh organizations, including the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Akhal Takht, who have called for a ban, accusing the film of misrepresenting the Sikh community.
