Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, shared that officials from the Election Commission inspected his helicopter during his campaign in Hingoli, Maharashtra. He emphasized the BJP's commitment to upholding fair election practices and expressed the importance of contributing to a robust democratic system. His statement comes amid ongoing controversies related to checks on political figures.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah disclosed on Friday that Election Commission (EC) officials conducted an inspection of his helicopter while he was campaigning in the Hingoli Assembly constituency of Maharashtra. In his statement shared via an X post, Shah remarked, “On this day, during my election campaign in Hingoli, my helicopter underwent scrutiny by the Election Commission officials. The BJP is committed to ensuring that elections are conducted fairly and adheres to all regulations established by the esteemed Election Commission.”
He remarked, “It is imperative for all of us to play our part in nurturing a robust electoral framework that reinforces India's stature as the strongest democracy globally.” These comments come in light of tensions following Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray’s discontent over the thorough examination of his luggage. Supriya Sule, a leader from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-SP), also condemned the situation, labeling it as “dirty politics.” She highlighted that while Thackeray’s bags were inspected rigorously, politicians in authority faced no such scrutiny.
Additionally, following standard operating procedures, Maharashtra's Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had his luggage checked at the Palghar Police ground helipad earlier in the week as he arrived for his assembly election campaign. The Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar, previously announced that enforcement agencies would be mandated to inspect the helicopters of all political leaders, striving to ensure equitable conditions throughout the election process. This initiative aims to curb any potential abuse of power during elections and enhance transparency.
The campaigning for the 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra has escalated, with both the ruling coalition, Mahayuti, and the opposition alliance, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), striving to attract the voters' attention. The results will be declared on November 23, marking a critical date in the state's political landscape.
