A significant achievement for security forces as they eliminate 36 Maoists in a joint operation near the Narayanpur-Dantewada border, marking a turning point in the fight against Maoist insurgency in Chhattisgarh.
The recent encounter at the Narayanpur-Dantewada border in Chhattisgarh has led to the elimination of 36 Maoists by security forces, marking a significant milestone in combating Maoist insurgency. This operation was carried out by the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Special Task Force (STF). The initiative began the day prior, culminating in a fierce engagement at approximately 12:30 PM today. Reports indicate that the clash is ongoing, with security personnel engaged in pursuing any remaining assailants.
The coordinated effort emerged following actionable intelligence that indicated a substantial Maoist presence in the area. Separate teams commenced operations in villages such as Govel, Nendur, and Thulthuli that fall under the jurisdiction of the Orcha and Barsur police stations. Their combing operations began the previous day in an attempt to locate and neutralize Maoist fighters.
Today’s encounter is notable as it has resulted in the recovery of various weapons, including AK series assault rifles. Sources state that the security forces are proceeding with caution while they pursue Maoists who have retreated further into the dense forest.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo hailed the operation as a major success and extended his congratulations to the security forces involved. He remarked, “Naxalism is taking its last breath... Naxalism is certainly going to be eliminated from the state.” He highlighted the Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s commitment towards eradicating Naxalism by March 2026, following his visits to the state in the past nine months.
This encounter stands out not only for the number of Maoists neutralized but as one of the largest successes in recent times against the backdrop of ongoing insurgency. The implications for regional stability are significant, as successful operations could lead to decreased Maoist activities in the future.
The fight against Maoist insurgency in India has been a long-standing challenge. State and central forces continue to intensify operations in various regions to dismantle Maoist networks. This recent encounter reflects ongoing efforts to enhance security and bring peace to population-affected areas.
As operations like these unfold, the Indian government indicates a resolute stance against Maoist activities. The outcome of this encounter may serve as a pivotal moment in shaping the future of anti-Maoist strategies and regional security in Chhattisgarh and beyond.
