Recent reports state that the Tamil Nadu train derailment resulted in 12 coaches going off track and 19 individuals sustaining injuries, with over 1,300 passengers on board the express train. The mishap occurred approximately 40 kilometers from Chennai.

The Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express, while traveling at a speed of 75 km/h, collided with a stationary goods train. RN Singh, General Manager of Southern Railways, indicated that a "mismatch between signal and route" was the primary factor behind this tragic event. The passenger train was expected to be redirected to the main track, but an error led it into a closed section occupied by the goods train.
According to Mr. Singh, the signals indicated a clear path on the main line; however, the train was directed inexplicably onto the loop line where the goods train was stationed. The incident occurred as the express train made a stop at the Kavaraippettai Railway Station before it proceeded to Gudur in Andhra Pradesh. The goods train, also heading to Gudur, was on a loop line while the express was given priority to traverse the main line.
The collision resulted in a heavy jolt, leading to the derailment of 12 coaches and injuring 19 passengers, all the while approximately 1,300 individuals were present on the train. Fortunately, there have been no fatalities reported, and the injured victims are currently receiving care in state hospitals. Additional arrangements were made to transfer stranded passengers to Chennai by bus and then onto a special train for their onward journeys.
The incident has had significant repercussions on local train operations. Due to the derailment and subsequent repair efforts, a number of trains have been either canceled or rerouted, with at least 18 services disrupted for the day.
