Hardeep Singh Puri critiques Congress over its guarantees and highlights BJP's achievements in governance
In a recent interview with NDTV, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri emphasized the stark contrast between the Congress party's promises and their actual deliverables, labeling the opposition's assurances as mere rhetoric.
According to Mr. Puri, Congress's recent electoral loss in Haryana signals a concerning trend, especially as elections approach in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. He highlighted the BJP's record of fulfilling promises made in their manifestos, contrasting this with what he called the "freebie approach" of the Congress party.
The minister also addressed several ongoing political controversies, including the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam and derogatory remarks by certain political figures. He stated, “A governance model that fosters real economic growth and benefits citizens is the only worthy approach. Any alternative that relies on unattainable promises does not constitute good governance.”
Puri took aim at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, pointing to his recent remarks on party guarantees and their broader implications. He suggested that Kharge’s statements reflected an inability to meet expectations. “The hard reality is that if you need to review promises, it indicates failure in delivery,” Puri noted.
The minister argued that Congress’s approaches to economic support and social promises often lead to public disillusionment. He claimed that such strategies harm society by raising unrealistic expectations without fulfilling them. Puri responded to Kharge's critiques of BJP guarantees, asserting that the BJP’s promises carry credibility, unlike the Congress's alleged empty rhetoric.
Puri underscored the achievements of the Modi government, asserting that each promise made since 2014 has been backed by concrete action. “The accomplishments of the Modi government stand as a testament to our commitment,” he remarked.
On the issue of corruption, Puri pointed to the alleged MUDA scam, involving family members of the Karnataka Chief Minister, to illustrate the Congress party’s historical entanglements with corruption. He urged Congress to take accountability, stating, “Long-term corruption allegations have plagued the Congress, and instead of addressing these issues, they deflect blame.”
Puri also condemned recent derogatory remarks against women in politics, stressing the need for respect toward all candidates. He called on political allies to take a stand against misogynistic behavior, emphasizing that such attitudes would eventually be met with a strong response from women in Maharashtra.
Puri's forthright assertions in this interview highlight the ongoing power struggle between Congress and BJP, shedding light on some of the most pressing issues shaping Indian politics today.
