Kochi: Malayalam film star Nivin Pauly, 40, has responded vehemently to a recent complaint filed against him in Kerala's Ernakulam district. The complaint, which led to a case being registered, alleges that Pauly was involved in a gangrape incident. Pauly has strongly denied these allegations and vowed to fight the case rigorously.
In her complaint, the woman accused Pauly of being part of a group of six individuals who sexually assaulted her outside India. She also claimed that she was deceived with promises of acting opportunities in films. Pauly, however, categorically denied knowing the complainant or having any involvement in the alleged incident. At a press conference on Tuesday evening, Pauly declared, "I don't know who she is, I have never seen her or spoken to her. This is a baseless news and I will go to any extent to prove the charges wrong."
Pauly mentioned that the police had previously closed a similar case after he denied knowing the complainant. He speculated that there might be a conspiracy behind the allegations and suggested that others might be involved in making such claims. Pauly assured that he would cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation to clear his name.
Pauly took to social media platform X to address the accusations publicly. He reiterated his stance that the allegations are false and pledged to take all necessary legal steps to address the issue. He urged his supporters to remain patient as the truth unfolds.
The complaint surfaced following the release of the Hema Committee report last month, which exposed widespread sexual exploitation in the Malayalam film industry. Sources indicate that the complainant decided to file her complaint after learning about the numerous cases highlighted by the report.
The Oonukal police in Ernakulam have registered the case, which will be forwarded to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Kerala government to probe sexual exploitation cases within the Malayalam film industry. This follows the trend of increasing scrutiny and FIR registrations in the wake of the Hema Committee report.
Nivin Pauly, known for his work in over 50 films and for turning producer with the successful 'Action Hero Biju,' is now amidst controversy. The Malayalam film industry has been facing turbulence with FIRs registered against several individuals, including actors and directors, as part of the ongoing investigation into sexual exploitation cases.
The situation in the Malayalam film industry continues to evolve as investigations proceed and more individuals come under scrutiny. Pauly's denial and the broader implications of the allegations reflect the ongoing struggles within the industry as it grapples with issues of sexual harassment and exploitation.
