Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Saturday alleged a possible conspiracy behind the recent spate of bridge collapses in Bihar, suggesting it might be an attempt to defame the BJP-led state government.
In just over a week, Bihar has witnessed the collapse of five bridges in various districts including Araria, Siwan, East Champaran, Kishanganj, and Madhubani. The sudden frequency of these incidents has raised concerns and suspicions among state officials and the public alike.
Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, a former Chief Minister and head of the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), has voiced his suspicion of a conspiracy aimed at tarnishing the image of the state government. "Why has the state suddenly started witnessing incidents of bridge collapse? Why is it happening after the Lok Sabha polls? Why were such incidents not taking place a month before? I suspect some conspiracy behind it. Authorities concerned must look into this aspect," Manjhi told reporters.
While expressing his concern over the bridge collapses, Manjhi highlighted the use of sub-standard materials by contractors as a significant factor. "It is happening because of the sub-standard material being used by contractors. The state government is taking action against such contractors. The state authorities are probing the matter as well," he stated.
Manjhi urged the authorities not only to investigate the quality of construction materials and practices but also to explore the possibility of a deliberate plot to discredit the government. "I also request them to probe the conspiracy angle," he added, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive inquiry to address all potential causes.
The state government has already initiated actions against contractors responsible for the construction of the collapsed bridges. Investigations are underway to determine the exact causes of these failures and to hold accountable those who compromised the structural integrity of the bridges.
The recent incidents have sparked widespread concern over public safety and the reliability of infrastructure in Bihar. The state’s residents are demanding swift and effective measures to ensure the safety and durability of public constructions.
The timing of these incidents, shortly after the Lok Sabha elections, has added a political dimension to the issue. The allegations of a conspiracy suggest an attempt to undermine public confidence in the BJP-led government, potentially influencing future electoral outcomes.
The allegations of a conspiracy behind the recent bridge collapses in Bihar highlight the urgent need for a thorough investigation. The state government must address both the immediate safety concerns and the broader implications of these incidents to restore public trust and ensure the integrity of its infrastructure projects.
