A severe accident on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway has resulted in the loss of three lives and left 40 others injured. The collision occurred at the 59th milestone near Firozabad, where a sleeper bus, specifically a double-decker sleeper coach, crashed into a truck. The bus was traveling from Bahraich to Delhi, a route that includes the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, when the crash happened. Among those who died were the bus driver and two passengers.
The bus involved in the incident was a double-decker sleeper coach, known for its two-tier seating arrangement, and was en route from Bahraich to Delhi. The bus had earlier been flagged for overloading issues and had been fined ₹5,000 in Shravasti for carrying more passengers than its designated capacity. Despite the earlier infraction, the bus continued its journey on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, leading to the tragic accident.
The vehicle, owned by Javed Ali from Meerut, had also been penalized ₹10,500 for overloading at Khandoli in Agra on June 14 earlier this year. This overloading contributed to the bus's instability, which may have played a role in the collision. The bus had been registered with the Meerut Regional Transport Office (RTO), and authorities are now scrutinizing its fitness and registration compliance.
Following the collision, the injured passengers were rushed to Safai Medical College in Etawah. Emergency medical teams are working to provide necessary care and treatment, with the condition of the injured passengers varying from severe to moderate. Their medical status is being closely monitored.
The bus involved in the crash was a double-decker sleeper, a design often preferred for long journeys due to its capacity and comfort features. The owner, Javed Ali, faces increased scrutiny due to the bus’s past violations. Authorities are examining the bus’s fitness and potential lapses in safety protocols that might have contributed to the accident.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) Ranvijay Singh has indicated that the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are focusing on determining the full extent of the violations and any lapses in safety protocols that may have led to this fatal incident. Efforts are underway to prevent such tragic accidents in the future and to ensure justice for those affected.
