Empowering Young Victorians with Essential Life Skills
The Allan Labor Government has unveiled YouthNav, a dynamic online platform tailored to equip young Victorians with essential life skills in an engaging, interactive way. Designed with input from youth and practitioners, YouthNav offers vital information on a variety of practical topics, from employment and financial management to housing and transportation.
Youth Minister Natalie Suleyman introduced the YouthNav platform, a project developed in close collaboration with young people and professionals who work with youth across Victoria. Supported by a $750,000 investment from the government, YouthNav aims to support Victorians aged 12 to 25 with a toolkit of resources that address fundamental aspects of adult life.
YouthNav's interactive format prompts users to assess their current skills and provides easy-to-navigate, clickable information that makes learning both accessible and enjoyable. The platform covers topics that young people frequently encounter, such as finding a job, moving out, managing finances, and engaging in civic life.
Feedback from over 160 young Victorians aged 13 to 25, alongside insights from youth practitioners and financial counsellors, including South East Community Links, has been instrumental in shaping YouthNav's content and approach. Additionally, the Victorian Youth Congress—a 20-member advisory panel composed of young people aged 12 to 25—played a critical role in concept and prototype testing over the past year to ensure the platform aligns with real needs.
Delivered under the Our Promise, Your Future Youth Strategy 2022-2027, YouthNav reflects the Labor Government's commitment to improving the health, wellbeing, and future opportunities for young Victorians. This initiative underscores a broader mission to support young people as they navigate the challenges and milestones of life.
For those interested in exploring the platform, YouthNav is available now at youthcentral.vic.gov.au/youthnav.
