In a tragic turn of events, the family of a deceased doctor in Kolkata was initially informed that their daughter had committed suicide. However, the situation took a darker turn as it was later revealed to be a murder. The assistant superintendent of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, who was the first to call and inform the family, has been summoned by the police to Lalbazar on Tuesday. According to a report by Anandabazaar Patrika, the family stated that they were initially told their daughter had committed suicide.

Murder and Rape Allegations Unveiled

The revelation that it was a murder, followed by allegations of rape, has prompted the police to file a case of both rape and murder, leading to an ongoing investigation.

Questions Surrounding the Suicide Claim

From the outset, there were questions about why the death was initially described as a suicide. On Monday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited the deceased’s family and received similar complaints. She later announced that they would investigate who first made the claim of suicide, and the police will question that person as well.

Police Statements and Victim's Last Movements

Police have also recorded the statements of seven junior doctors, four of whom had dinner with the victim that night. The victim reportedly watched Neeraj Chopra’s javelin throw as part of the Paris Olympics before having dinner at 2:30 am with her colleagues. She then headed to the seminar hall to rest.

Autopsy Report Uncovers Brutal Assault

Autopsy reports revealed that the victim had cut marks on her hands and face. The reports also indicated that a brutal blow caused shards of glass from her spectacles to break and enter her eyes. Injuries to the head were also reported, as the accused allegedly slammed the deceased’s head against the wall.

Disturbing Details of the Crime Scene

A semi-nude body of a woman PGT doctor, a second-year student in the chest medicine department, was found inside the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Friday. She was on duty on Thursday night, and her body bore multiple injury marks. The preliminary autopsy report indicated sexual abuse before her murder, leading her father to allege that she was raped and murdered inside the hospital.

Suspect Arrested by Kolkata Police

Kolkata Police identified and arrested a suspect named Sanjay Roy in the case. Roy, an outsider, had easy access to several departments of the hospital due to his role as a civic volunteer in the police welfare board. Sources said that Roy was arrested after his activities were found to be suspicious.
