Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has promised Sikh community leaders that the state government is considering a potential ban on the release of Kangana Ranaut's film "Emergency," pending an in-depth legal review. Government advisor Mohammad Ali Shabbir conveyed this assurance on Thursday, highlighting the chief minister’s dedication to addressing the Sikh community's serious concerns about the film.
A delegation from the Telangana Sikh Society, led by former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Tejdeep Kaur Menon, recently met with Shabbir at the Secretariat to formally request a ban on "Emergency." The 18-member delegation submitted a comprehensive representation, urging the state to act swiftly to prevent the film's release due to its controversial content.
The delegation raised alarm over the film’s portrayal of the Sikh community, alleging that it depicts Sikhs as terrorists and anti-nationals. They argued that such representations are not only deeply offensive but also harmful to the community’s image, exacerbating stereotypes and potentially inciting social tension.
Shabbir noted that Chief Minister Reddy has committed to a thorough review of the request for a ban. Any decision will be made only after careful legal consultation to ensure it is both fair and justified. The chief minister’s pledge underscores a measured approach to resolving the issue while upholding legal standards.
