The official YouTube channel of the Supreme Court of India was hacked on Friday, featuring videos promoting XRP cryptocurrency developed by Ripple Labs.
The hacking incident coincides with important hearings scheduled for Friday, including a PIL on judge appointments and cases involving SpiceJet and the Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah dispute.
Hackers have also made earlier court hearing videos private. The incident came to light when a video titled "Brad Garlinghouse: Ripple Responds To The SEC's $2 Billion Fine! XRP PRICE PREDICTION" went live on the channel.
The Supreme Court was set to hear multiple significant cases, such as SpiceJet’s plea against a Delhi High Court verdict and a plea contesting an Allahabad High Court order related to the Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah dispute.
The Supreme Court has been live-streaming proceedings of all Constitution Bench hearings following a unanimous decision taken in 2018 by a full court meeting headed by then CJI UU Lalit.
