Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accompanied by Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, visited a leading semiconductor and electronics company in Singapore on Thursday. This visit was part of Modi's two-day trip to Singapore, where he was invited by Wong.
During the visit, both leaders toured AEM Holdings Ltd and received a briefing on the company’s role in the global semiconductor value chain, its operations, and its plans for collaboration with India, according to a press statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The MEA spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, noted on X that the visit focused on boosting ties in advanced manufacturing, particularly in the semiconductor sector. The leaders discussed opportunities for collaboration between India and Singapore and reviewed developments in the semiconductor ecosystem in Singapore.
Both sides agreed to expand bilateral cooperation in semiconductor manufacturing as part of their strategic partnership. A memorandum of understanding on the India-Singapore Semiconductor Ecosystem Partnership was also concluded during the visit.
At AEM Holdings, Modi and Wong interacted with Indian interns from Odisha's World Skill Center who are training in Singapore, as well as Singaporean interns who had previously visited India. They also met Indian engineers working at AEM.
Prime Minister Modi invited Singaporean semiconductor companies to participate in the SEMICON INDIA exhibition scheduled to be held in Greater Noida from September 11-13, 2024. This invitation underscores the commitment of both nations to enhance cooperation in the semiconductor sector.
Modi’s visit to Singapore followed his trip to Brunei, marking the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country. Upon arrival in Singapore, Modi received a warm welcome from the Indian community.
