Kunal Ghosh’s Conspiracy Claim

Amid the ongoing deadlock between protesting doctors and the West Bengal government, senior Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh has alleged that "opposition forces" are plotting an attack on the agitators to defame the Mamata Banerjee government. Mr. Ghosh referred to an audio clip as evidence of this conspiracy.

Context of the Protests

The doctors have been protesting since the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9.

Details of the Alleged Conspiracy

According to Ghosh, the audio clip is a conversation between a member of the Left's youth wing and someone from an ultra-Left organization. He claims the plot aims to attack the doctors' protest and blame the ruling party and state government for the violence.

Police Response and Arrests

The police have registered a case and arrested one person in connection with the conspiracy claims. CPI(M) spokesperson Fuad Halim has called for an investigation into how Mr. Ghosh obtained the audio clip.

Past Incidents and Concerns Raised

Fuad Halim also highlighted that on August 14, a group of goons entered RG Kar hospital during a peaceful protest and tried to compromise the crime scene. He criticized the administration for being silent on the matter and accused the Trinamool Congress of fostering a "threat culture" in West Bengal.

Stalled Talks Between Government and Doctors

Efforts to hold discussions between the state government and the protesting doctors have been stalled since Tuesday. The doctors made four key demands for a meeting: sending a delegation of at least 30, holding discussions in the presence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, focusing on their five-point demands, and live telecasting the meeting.

Deadlock Over 'Live Telecast' Demand

While three of the four demands were met, the meeting did not take place because the government did not agree to live telecasting the discussion.

Chief Minister’s Apology and Offer to Resign

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee explained that live streaming the meeting would be against protocol, as the matter was in court. She apologized to the people of West Bengal and offered to step down from her post, stating that she wants justice for the trainee doctor and that medical services must continue.

Five-Point Demands of the Doctors

The doctors’ demands include holding all individuals responsible for the trainee doctor’s rape and murder accountable, punishing any destruction of evidence, and taking strict disciplinary action against former RG Kar Medical College Principal Sandip Ghosh. They have also called for the resignation of the Kolkata Police Commissioner and the Health Secretary and for improved security measures in healthcare institutions.

Appeal to the President and Prime Minister

In an effort to resolve the impasse, the doctors have written to the President and Prime Minister, requesting their intervention to end the deadlock.
