Samsung's New PolarID Feature Could Outdo Apple's Face ID: What to Know

Apple has long utilized its Face ID technology, housed in the wide notch or Dynamic Island, for security and authentication. However, this feature takes up a significant portion of the screen, especially when compared to phones with smaller punch-hole cutouts. Now, reports suggest that Samsung has developed a solution that offers similar functionality but occupies less screen space while enhancing safety.

As per user Haizaki Ryouhei, Samsung is preparing to launch PolarID, its version of Face ID, alongside the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra in 2025.
PolarID, currently in the pre-market phase, is touted to require no additional sensors and will occupy minimal space, maintaining a punch-hole design.
The technology is expected to offer enhanced security and efficacy compared to Face ID and other facial recognition systems.
PolarID is set to leverage the computational capabilities of Qualcomm Snapdragon and Samsung LSI, with the Samsung ISOCELL Vizion 931 possibly making its debut on the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Another user, Sawyer Galox, believes that PolarID may debut on the Galaxy S26 Ultra instead, as Samsung is carefully refining the technology to match Apple's Face ID standards.
The potential launch of PolarID in the S26 Ultra may impact the rivalry between Samsung and Apple, especially as Apple is rumored to unveil a redesigned iPhone with an all-screen design and possibly under-screen or punch-hole sensors.
