However, credible sources now affirm that the star opener will indeed return as captain for the ODI matches.
India is scheduled to compete in three T20I matches starting from July 27, preceding the ODI series commencing on August 2. Rohit Sharma, who initially sought a break following the T20 World Cup victory, has chosen to reassess his plans after discussions with new head coach Gautam Gambhir.
With only six ODIs scheduled before the 2025 Champions Trophy, it was deemed crucial for Rohit Sharma not to miss this pivotal series. This also presents a valuable opportunity for new head coach Gautam Gambhir to collaborate with Rohit and initiate preparations for next year’s ICC event.
Gambhir and chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar emphasize the importance of maintaining stability in the leadership group.
