On August 25, 2024, the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B), signed a significant agreement with Mathew Cyriac, a former student and Executive Chairman of Florintree Advisors Pvt Ltd. This partnership will create India’s first Global Centre of Excellence dedicated to Private Equity (PE) and Venture Capital (VC). This move represents a major advance in finance education and research in India.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) formalizes the collaboration between IIM-B and Mathew Cyriac to set up a premier institution on the IIM-B campus, focusing on Private Equity and Venture Capital. The new Centre will be named after Tony James, a renowned investment banker, to honor his significant impact on the industry.
The Centre aims to become a leading global authority in Private Equity and Venture Capital. It seeks to foster a strong research environment and spark new ideas in these fields. Mathew Cyriac’s support is the largest financial contribution ever made by an alumnus to IIM-B. In addition to providing funding, he has suggested naming four classrooms after the professors who taught him. He is also helping to create scholarships for students pursuing postgraduate and PhD programs.
The Centre’s mission is to create a collaborative space that brings together academics, industry experts, and regulatory bodies. Its vision is to develop top talent in Private Equity and Venture Capital by connecting students with industry leaders, enhancing their learning, and providing practical experience. The Centre will be a hub for advanced research and educational activities, offering students insights into the latest trends, hands-on fieldwork, and mentorship from experienced professionals in these sectors.
